Vujadin Boskov said: "My biggest concern is to take one goal less than the opponent." This same concern accompanied me, controller in hand, waiting to touch the first ball in the new, punctual and inevitable, FIFA chapter. An inevitable sensation considering that the latest versions of EA's football simulation have aroused, in an alarming crescendo, a long series of doubts and doubts about the direction taken, having focused (with questionable results) on a gameplay strongly oriented towards a fast game and purely offensive. The premises were therefore not the best.

It is evident already from the first minutes of this game, and I will have confirmation during the countless successive matches, that the balancing work done by the Canadian team is one of the most interesting and appreciable news of this new chapter: finally on the field we find more responsive players , able to adapt to the different phases of the game, read in advance the opponent's play and move consistently in the most complex situations. Even the line of defense is lowered promptly when we lose the ball, tightening immediately on the attackers to prevent those annoying counterattacks impossible to stop, typical of FIFA 15. In addition to presenting a more rigorous tactical discipline, FIFA 16 also helps us with a amount of new animations entirely dedicated to movement without the ball that allow greater freedom and agility in intervening on the attackers. To complete the range of news for the backward department we find the possibility of getting up quickly after a wrong tackle (or perhaps performed only to slow the opponent), simply by pressing the same button again.

By managing the rear with more peace of mind, you have time to develop more refined and diversified attack strategies: you can choose to make the most of the new system of short passages (more fluid although they require greater precision) to create a complex network of exchanges. can try to advance centrally and (by pressing R1 / RB + Pass) insert the defense with a dry and precise razor in the direction of the points, or you can take advantage of the lateral bands up to the trocar and with a tense cross (R1 / RB + Cross ) reach the center of the area and hit violently with the head or finally, for those with more agile fingers, it is possible (by pressing L1 / LB) to give the defender the illusion of having abandoned the ball and with a rapid movement of the body ( using the left stick) leave it behind thanks to the new "No touch dribbling".

If everything is much more fun and realistic in the central 80 meters of the pitch, the same cannot always be said when the striker and goalkeeper are against each other: the physics applied to the goals is sometimes lacking; the shots, especially performed from a few meters away from the extreme defender, are too fast compared to what happens in the construction phase (with passages and crosses). At the same time the goalkeepers, even those of the upper class, exaggeratedly suffer the conclusions on their own pole, so much so that the CPU willingly seeks this type of conclusion, and most of the times they manage to intervene do not try to block the ball, but they merely reject it, sometimes even clumsily.
